Meet Fred Camillo

Dedicated Public Servant | Proven Leader | Greenwich Native

A fourth generation native to Greenwich, Fred Camillo has devoted over four decades of service to our town - and to our great state as elected Representative of the 151st District of Greenwich. Serving in this position for the past 11 years (and counting!), Fred has tirelessly and proudly represented the voices of our diverse town both locally and on the state level up in Hartford.

Fred is known for listening to his constituents concerns, being a voice for the residents and taking action by solving problems and working across party lines.

As State Representative, Fred has served as the Ranking Member on the Commerce Committee, and as a member of the Banks and Executive and Legislative Nominations Committees. He was also appointed Assistant Republican Leader by Minority Leader Themis Klarides.

In the past, Fred has served on the Environment, Transportation, and Insurance and Real Estate Committees. The environment is near and dear to Fred’s heart. He is a founding member and board director of Greenwich Recycling Company (1991-2011), a company which set the standard for recycling of plastic, glass, cans and newspaper in Connecticut.

In previous terms, Fred introduced and gained passage of the Volunteer Protection and Indemnification Act, which gives CT the strongest volunteer protection law in the country as well as wrote and introduced a bill that now enables fire police patrolmen to issue traffic violations at traffic, fire, and or flood scenes. He also introduced the Pet Lemon Law, which deals with out of state puppy mills and affords buyers protections when purchasing their puppies from pet shops. In addition, he worked on and helped pass a bill to expand recycling in CT; worked on and assisted with passage of anti-price gouging law; and along with other Greenwich representatives, introduced the original cell tower bill that was finally signed into law in 2012.

Fred’s experience as a small business owner, high school teacher, baseball coach, and mortgage banker has provided him with the knowledge of where government works for people and where it fails them. His continued active involvement in our community provides him with the insight and experience necessary to legislate in the best interest of the 151st District.

Fred’s experience and qualifications are as follows: Greenwich Council of Boys Scouts, advisory board member, 2008 – present; Greenwich Baseball Foundation, board member, 2007 – present Greenwich Junior Babe Ruth League, board member, 2006 – present; Founding member of citizens group to establish Greenwich Dog Park, 2000; Co-Chairman of Yogi Memorial project in Byram Park, 1996 -1998; Byram Neighborhood Association, Member’; Chickahominy Reunion Association; Fraternal Order of Redmen and Knights of Columbus. He is also a board member of the Greenwich Old Timer’s Athletic Association and the Cos Cob Association. The involvement in these community organizations has given Fred an understanding of the many needs of this area as well as real experience in bringing diverse groups together to benefit the whole.

Fred’s education includes: BA Political Science/History, Manhattanville College, 1996. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with Portfolio Honors, Departmental Honors, a Special Academic Achievement Award and made the National Dean’s List. He was also in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. In addition to attending for his Bachelors of Arts, he also received his Masters in Education from Manhattanville College.

Fred grew up in the Cos Cob section of Greenwich and believes we, in Connecticut, can do a better job in retaining and attracting people to our district, our town, and our state. The people of the 151st District have been lifelong friends, and being their voice in Hartford is a special honor for him.

Fred lives at 35 MacArthur Drive, in Old Greenwich with his two rescue dogs.
